Are you a lover of grocery shopping or does it stress you out beyond belief?

I am honored to introduce my guest poster Camille from Positive Life Change with Fitness.  Camille is a highly organized wife and mother, and the driving force behind the Positivity Platform. Camille offers recipes, reviews, along with health and wellness support on her website. Her mantra is “Every Day Is A New Day Lets Start It With A Dose Of Positivity!”

I am one of those weirdos who absolutely LOVES grocery shopping and meal prep.

A little background for those of you who are new to reading blogs by me! My name is Camille Kurtenbach and I am a wife and step mom to a beautiful 5-year-old boy! I got married last July and have loved every moment since! I am lucky enough to have a hubby who supports and pushes me to all of my crazy dreams! I fell into my passion of helping others at a young age and graduated college with a psychology degree but couldn’t find the right fit for me, which led me to my current adventure!

Over the last 2 years I have moved my way into helping others learn how to grocery shop, stay in budget, and prep! I’m sure you are wondering why in the world does Lisa have her guest posting, so far she has not talked about anything that has to do with organizing, trust me I’ll get there, I promise! I am super type A and I wouldn’t function without organization!

So many people think that grocery shopping/meal prepping just takes too much time, but I am here to tell you that once you figure out a system that works for YOU, it’s really not that bad! The key word in that sentence is YOU! We are not all the same! Some of my tips are NOT going to work for you and that is TOTALLY fine! Do you, and be okay with doing you!

Are you ready to dive into the top 3 tips that I tell EVERYONE I work with?!

First and foremost you have to go through your kitchen! How are you going to know what to shop for if you don’t know what you already have!! (ps if you are trying to be healthy, throw the icky processed stuff away or have it on its own special shelf that you won’t see every day if possible!)

Second, you need to make a list!! Know what you are going to the store for! This will help you stay in budget, and not come home with food you may not need! Opening up more space in your house for less clutter!

Third, prep the food that you bring home! What good is food taking up space in your fridge and cabinets if it’s not getting eaten! We are typically really lazy human beings so the more you can pound out in 1 or 2 prep days the better life will be! You will know what you need to eat, and this will help keep your kitchen organized and reduce waste!

Like I mentioned above not all of these are going to be for everyone but these 3 tips are a great way to get a solid foundation and build a system that works best for YOU! Because when it really comes down to it, only you need to understand why you are doing what you are doing!

  1. Cool post! I have to say I do -not- like grocery shopping at all, for me it’s a necessary evil. But this tips are really helpful, especially the one about going through your kitchen cupboards first as I often end up getting stuff we still have 🙂

  2. Such great advice…I need to get better about being organized when grocery shopping. I often find myself making a list in the car before I go in!

    • So many people don’t use lists or make it in the car which can be super hard when you don’t know what you have at home!! Once you get in the routine it becomes second nature!! 🙂

  3. Thanks for all your tips, I am still one of those who buys everything without checking the cupboard and fridge before leaving the house to go to the supermarket and end up with hundreds of packets of flour in the cupboard.
Also I still forget things and have to go back or send my son to fetch them. I guess deep down it comes to the fact that I don’t really like to cook…

  4. Ahhhhh #3, where I always, always fail! I tell myself to make it a habit but I still end up jamming things into the fridge, wherever they will fit. I’d love to see a whole post on this!

  5. It’s always hard going grocery shopping and seeing things that are not on your list but sounds good anyways, and they end up in your cart.

    • Thanks for your comment Amanda, you are not alone! One tidbit that might prove useful is to set a limit for how many ‘non-essential’ items you can add to your cart before you even head out shopping.

  6. Love your blog. Thanks for the warm welcome (in the FB group) and the comment. Great post. I love organizing and doing meal prep…but I gotta admit, sometimes laziness gets the best of me and it’s not always easy.

    • Thank you! Happy to hear you like the blog too! We all have times that we just go for not and get the shopping done. No worries, just go with what works for you!

  7. Organisation and grocery shopping do not go together at all in our house! I really love your tip on prepping food in advance. We are really bad for not having the motivation to cook tea and ordering out. Hopefully this will mean the end unnecessary takeaways and wasted food!
