If you know me at all, you know I love, love, love decorating and changing the rooms in my house to suit the season.  It can be as simple as decorating the front door or adding a few seasonal items to the hall table to celebrate holidays.

Hearts for Valentines, Bunnies for Easter, and don’t get me going about Christmas.  My husband says we need another room in the house for the Christmas decorations.

Well, spring has sprung, and summer is on the way, our bedroom needed a summer re-style so here we go!!!

The first thing that had to go was the seafoam/chocolate brown, and very heavy comforter in preparation and the hope of warmer weather ahead.  Unfortunately, our bedroom is the room located farthest from the furnace; therefore, the room is colder than the rest of the house in the winter and dang it if it isn’t hotter than the rest of the house in summer. Not much we can do about that, so we change the bedding for the seasons to make it as comfortable as possible.

In my excitement and dream that summer would soon arrive, I neglected to take a before picture of the winter bedding.

Perhaps there is a Winter Bedroom MakeOver post in our future…..

Re-using a few of the seafoam and brown accent pillows, along with the cozy soft brown blanket we keep at the end of our bed helped lower the cost of the re-style down.  In addition, these items add a touch of color to the ivory bedding and tie in nicely to the overall color scheme in our home.  We are loving the Ivory Ceiling Tile Quilt Set, the fabric breathes well yet keeps us toasty warm even on the cool spring nights.  The quilt set is machine washable in cold water and soft to the touch. The ivory gives the room a fresh, clean look and has a light air about it.

The window treatment in our bedroom includes an ivory pleated blind with thermal insulated brown grommet drapes on a simple pewter rod.  Click on these links to check out similar window treatments for the windows in your home.

Next came the artwork, we didn’t want anything overpowering on the walls and we are not quite ready for major changes to the paint color just yet.  In the future, we (and by ‘we’ in this instance I mean ‘I’) would like to incorporate feature walls utilizing paint and various styles of boards in our home, we will be sure to share these updates with you!  Above the bed, we hung a single contemporary piece of art originally painted by Sarah Brooke, an Australian artist born in Melbourne.  The neutral colors and rich texture catch your eye while remaining calm and subtle. This title for the artwork is “Middle of Nowhere.”  The colors compliment the ivory quilt set and will definitely coordinate with future bedding updates.  The simplicity and texture of this hand painted piece of art make it stunning. You can view the painting in the final picture of this post. Sadly, the rich textures don’t come thru as profoundly in the photo.

On the side wall, we hung two wooden quotable signs purchased at my favorite home decor store which truly is in the middle of nowhere.  Luckily for me, it also happens to be on the way to the campground where we unwind and spend our summer weekends.  Nicola Ranch Country Gifts is located outside of a wee town named Merritt in British Columbia, Canada.  You can check out some of their decor items on their facebook page but I highly recommend stopping in if you are ever in the area!

Now the fun really begins. Look out night tables, here comes Lisa!!  Long gone is the time when night tables held alarm clocks and dentures. Dentures, where do I come up with these word pictures in my head?

Flowers mean spring and I love to incorporate them whenever possible. I mean who doesn’t like to get flowers right. Check out the Spring Re-Style Pop of Color post to see how the color pink was incorporated into the living room.  A simple way to add the pop of pink to the bedroom was with flowers!  If fresh flowers are too costly where you live, opt for a bouquet of pink, fabric flowers.  I usually find the best options are labeled and intended for a brides bouquet!  The blue, glass vase is one of my all time favorites as it holds a variety of bouquet sizes while keeping them together and secure.

The white star was a great buy at Home Sense, a store where you can be inspired, check out what is trending, and even get decor tips. This ceramic star adds great shape and an eye-catching element to the bedside table.  Nothing says romance like candles, the turquoise 3 wick candle placed on a black lacquer square tray, with gemstones gives it pizazz.  Love how they glow in the candlelight. If you prefer flameless candles here is a great option. This Gold Accent tray and flameless candle set is rich and charming. The pewter, leaf engraved candle holder on the back right of the table is perfect for a flameless candle and adds a balanced height to the arrangement. Candlelight is soothing in a bedroom, rather than turning on overhead lamps or light fixtures. Flameless candles are the safest option!

A clear, glass reed diffuser for Essential oils helps promote overall relaxation and a restful sleep.  Lavender and chamomile essential oils are my faves for a good nights sleep.

Add a personal touch to the room with a vacation or family photo, our picture displayed in the wooden block holder “Love You More” is a beach and surf pic taken while we were on vacation in Mexico.

Now onto nightstand number two. Oh, I am having some fun, are you??

Doubt you can guess where we picked up the “Love You to the Moon and Back” wooden sign.…isn’t it adorable.  When we stop at the small craft store it is as if the buyer knows me, she always has the cutest choices and every time we stop in we find just the right thing.  Love you to the moon and back, or love you to Pluto and back is our preferred sentiment to each other and to our kids; I recommend you repeat it often to those you love. XOXO.  The black gemstones are part of a different candle set I was given as a gift, the gemstones work perfectly here to add a shiny element and shape to the flat surface of the table.

I love to read so a few of the books I am currently reading and future reads are piled in the corner.  No, they don’t stay in this tidy pile all the time!  What is the point of having books if you don’t read them? The Magnolia Story is such a cute peek into the start of this wonderful couple’s career, the book is motivating, and good for a chuckle or two.  We can all use a good laugh at the end of the busy day.

Due to my immense lack of a green thumb, the plant on the left side of the table is artificial and never requires watering or replanting.  My favorite!!

The three Flowers Candle Holder is made of glass and iron, it is available in teal and red glass, both are beautiful.  The height is a perfect balance for the other items on the nightstand, and the blue glow adds ambiance and warmth to the room. With this decor item now in place, flowers are incorporated to both of the night tables which increases the uniformity of the room’s decorating style.

While we are at it, it was time to change the handles on the two dressers and night tables to update the bedroom furniture. We found these contemporary, metal pull handles at Rona.  There is a large selection of handles available in store and online.  Due to the number of handles needed to update out an entire bedroom set, it is wise to wait for a sale!

The Ivory Fairy was ordered from Partylite, she softly blows a kiss goodnight. Sweet, sweet dreams to all.

Put it all together and you get this.

I feel I need you in my home! I get extremely excitable when changing furnishings and decorating, I’m currently pintetesting my way through shabby to chic Chester drawer refurbs! My husband told me to wait awhile..but after reading this beautiful post…nah il do it now 😉

    • Thanks for stopping by Hanzi, I must admit that decorating definitely gets me excited. I love seeing what I can do with what I have, and how just adding a few different items to a room can completely change the ambiance! Good luck with your refurbs!

    • Hi Regine, I love to freshen things up and change the decor when the urge hits me. I love to decorate tables and the foyer for holidays like Valentines, Easter, etc. In my seasonal or general decorating, I find that even moving a ‘color scheme or group of home decor items’ from one room to another helps me see it in a new way, and gives the room a fresh look without spending a lot of $$$.

  4. this turned out so beautiful! i love the tables! i am really into white bedding right now and just updated ours from black to white also and it really brightens up the entire room! thanks for sharing!

    • Hey Jackie, thanks for checking out the summer bedroom post. I am loving the lighter bedding, in colour and weight. Much better for the summer than the heavy comforter.

  5. What a beautiful bedroom! There are some simple yet elegant decorations and I love the quilt. This motivates me to get to painting our master bedroom sooner rather than later so we can finish it up

  6. I am in love with wooden signs!! The two you have hanging are amazing and I also love the one on your table too! I don’t know what it is about them, but I think they’re adorable! We have quite a few in our house too 🙂

  7. I would have loved to see the before but nonetheless I will watchout for the winter makeovery in the future. Gorgeous pieces on your side tables. I saw a Beth Moore book on one of the nice stands. Is thst a good read, And what’s the title please?

    • Yes. It is Beth Moore, her first work of fiction ‘the Undoing of Saint Silvanus.’ I am trading a couple other books so didn’t get to this one yet. Thanks for checking out the post and your lovely comment.

  8. What a lovely bedroom! I love that you kept the makeover so simple and didn’t go too over the top. Most makeovers I see end up spending a ton of money, which isn’t realistic for most of us. Thanks for keeping it real!

    • Hi Samantha, thanks for stopping by. Interestingly enough I think that is the way my blog is fine tuning, all things simple to lead a happy life.
