Have you ever been asked, “what is your superpower?”  A few months back, this question really made me stop and think about what I Iike to do, what I am good at, and why I like to do it.  There is no doubt that one thing I love to do is decorate our home but while I reflected on the answer to this question I asked myself another question.  “Why do I love to decorate?”  The reason I do what I do is, to create a welcoming, peaceful place for our family and friends.  I like to take a house and turn it into a cozy home and you can too!

Six ways you can turn your house into a cozy and inviting home for all.  Share your cozy tips with us in the comment section at the end of the post!

Create a welcoming front entry inside and out.

Windows beside or as part of your front door really add a cozy feel to the front porch.  Add potted some plants, a few flowers for colour, a simple hoop wreath then choose a rug to compliment it all and welcome friends into your home.  Wreaths, potted plants, and wooden signs can all be incorporated to create an attractive entrance to your home.  Remember, the entry is your chance to make a good first impression!

Organize and declutter your kitchen and other spaces.

Organize and make sure that all your kitchen tools and accessories have a home and keep them there.  The fewer items you have on your counters, the more welcoming and inviting your kitchen will be.  Your friends and family will feel more comfortable and at ease taking a seat at the island or table when they don’t have to push stuff aside to find room to sit or a spot for their coffee cup!

Declutter and keep counters, tables and dressers free of clutter by using boxes and baskets to store everyday household items like remotes, glasses and paper stationery items.

Use area rugs.

A neutral sofa with clean lines creates an inviting spot to relax and chat with friends. Add a touch of cozy with a beautiful rug.  Large rooms can often feel immense and uninviting, a rug defines the gathering space.  This has become especially important with all the tall ceilings, great rooms, and open floor plans popular today.

An area rug gives the room a more intimate, cozy, and inviting atmosphere.

An assortment of comfy cushions are a must.

Decorative cushions, especially when they are blush pink, wink wink, will make any room cozier!  Restyle your cushions affordably by purchasing new covers, Amazon has a great selection at an unbeatable price.

Decorate with Books

Nothing says home like books, stack them or place them in baskets or on a shelf.  The books in your home can also be used to tell a story, they could be books from places you have travelled, a photo book full of special memories or even vintage books from your grandma.  There are so many interesting ways to incorporate books into your home decorating!

Flowers and plants

Remember #1 and how greenery made your front entrance come alive?  Plants and flowers are a must inside your home as well.  Even if you have a black thumb like me, fresh plants, a vase of flowers, or a few succulents are great decorating items while at the same time many plants clean the air in your home too!

A bouquet of flowers any time of the year will bring a smile to the face of anyone who enters your home, and will probably boost your own mood too!  Unless you have hay fever, then I suggest you opt for high-quality faux flowers.  Place flowers cut fresh from your yard in a simple white vase on a windowsill or kitchen table, to bring the outdoors in, nature has its own inherent welcoming vibe.

Try to add one item of greenery to every room in your house, it makes each space feel calmer, cleaner and lighter which means you and your guests will be more relaxed and happy in your home.

In summary, these six things will give your home a cozy and inviting feel: a welcoming front entrance, organized kitchen, uncluttered space, area rugs, greenery in every room!

What great ideas, I have a huge throw rug in my living room, everyone who comes in fir the first time always tells my my living room is so cozy. the rest of my house however needs much work, I love the greenery idea, I have slowly been working on increasing my indoor plants, but haven’t gotten too carried away just yet! I think a little more would make my spaces a little more welcoming!
