Welcome, I am so glad you are here and blessed to invite you on into our home. I am over the top thrilled to be part of the 2017 Christmas Home Tour, to be amongst these amazing home stylists is an honour. Check out the link at the bottom of this post to see the gorgeous holiday inspiration from my talented blogger friends.
What do Christmas and the holiday season mean to you?
For us, it means welcoming friends and family into our homes, spending time together while enjoying good food, playing cards and games, and laughing our bellies off. We want all that we do is give thanks and celebrate the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ. This Christmas I give thanks to God for my family and friends, a home to live and love in, and a year ahead to use what He sees fit to provide for us so we may use it to bless Him.
Welcome to the Roe home.
At night, the gift boxes, garland and wreath are lit up with twinkly lights to welcome our guests. I can’t seem to find our outdoor holiday rug since our move; if you any suggestions for a durable yet beautiful outdoor rug please do drop me a note in the comments so I can check it out.
This is our entryway, I have not quite finished decorating it yet. There is a ledge way, way up on the left beside the front door that is going to be adorned with a garland and sparkly lights. Add the garland for the bannister….and that should be it.
The snowmen and other animal creatures have been with us for many years. When our daughters were young, I loved to fill our home with magical creatures that are lifelike and definitely kid-sized and we still have fun with them today. Unabashedly, I admit, when I took out the snowman standing in the corner on the right, I gave him a hug and told him it was good to see him. Okay, I admit I am a wee bit attached to these guys. They bring back memories of holidays with little girls running about so filled with excitement and awe.
We have a guest! There have been a few, dark nights when I actually jump at the sight of someone in our home but then realize it is one of the snowmen.
One of the projects on my DIY to-do list for next year is to paint this brown basket shelving unit and framed mirror. I thought about replacing the basket shelf, but these drawers come in so handy that I have decided to DIY it instead.
Anyhew….back to Christmas decor. You might have seen the photo above on my Instagram feed early in November, I was super pumped at finding this bell and burlap wreath at a pharmacy, and I just had to share with my friends.
Like who knew that the local pharmacy would have the best selection of Christmas decor in the whole city? The picture really doesn’t do it justice. The light up wooden star has star shape cutouts on all sides which casts reflections in all directions, simply heavenly.
My favorite part of the holidays are the meals shared with the people I love. There is just something about sitting down to a meal or even a simple dessert and games night that brings out the best in people. Maybe it’s because their bellies are getting filled, or perhaps it’s the cup of cheer, but the gatherings around the table are always memorable.
Silver with greens/blues tones make up almost all of the Christmas decor in our home this year, I carried over my fall neutral with a pop of soft green with a pop of turquoise, in an effort to beat the winter blues.
When winter hits full force the first week of November, you know it is going to be a long winter! If you are experiencing the winter doldrums, check out this lovely guest post by my friend Jennifer, she illustrates the steps to set you up for a cozy winter and Beat the Winter Blues.
I love to add various confetti to my tablescapes all year round. For winter, there are the green trees and silver stars and for Christmas dinner, confetti that is the words ‘Merry Christmas.’ Confetti is an inexpensive but fun way to add celebration to your table.
I had fun making Christmas printable quotes for you, this is one of them!
Wooden boxes are so fun to repurpose with greenery and candles for all occasions.
Another FREE printable for you!
All the framed quotes shown in my pictures are printables you can have right now to decorate your home.
Click on the image below for your free download – six Christmas printable quotes including ‘Merry Christmas x2,’ ‘Be Merry and Bright,’ For Unto Us a Child is Born, ‘Joy to the World'(shown in bedroom photos below), and a bonus ‘Give Me Sweets’ printable.

This is our eating area on any given day without the hoopla of the dinner setting on the table :). I have twinkly lights in the bowl and throughout the wreath because you just can’t have too many twinkles. In December the bowl on the table will be swapped out for the wooden the box filled with greenery and candles but as this post needed to be ready to go live, this is what the table looks like today. We don’t have a buffet/hutch and I am not sure I want one. Then I would be inclined to fill it.
For now, this space works perfectly for the laptop desk, and it is super handy to have a computer right by the kitchen. I can google a recipe or send a quick email while I am cooking dinner, or when I need to check in on my blog. I splurged this year and ordered a new Mac laptop, what a dream, it seamlessly communicates with my iPhone, iPad, and iMac which ensures that wherever I am working, all my contacts, images, and documents are easily accessible.
I put together this simple place setting for to use when we host appetizer and dessert buffets in our home. Frames and ornaments from the dollar store or Amazon, DIY with chalk paint, hot glue gun to tack a twig of greenery to the wooden charger and numbered cloth napkins for the guests.
The numbered napkins are a great help for everyone to keep track of their dish as they ‘graze’ throughout the evening. These square dessert plates are part of my serving dishes and all have fun sayings written on them. The set includes plates that say ‘yum’ or ‘mmm,’ and a dip dish that says ‘no double dipping!’
And here is our kitchen where all that good food is made, and where friends congregate! I kept the kitchen decor to a minimum this year as we seem to always need the counters for prepping the food and drinks over the holidays.
Changing the light bulbs from soft white to red, blue and green in the pendant lights above the island gives the space a Christmas glow.
Friends or the kids sit comfortably at the island or in the great room and chat with us while we prepare the food. The hubs and I pretty much sit here at the island every night for dinner too.
When we moved into our new home, I had a vote on Facebook for our friends and family to choose between wooden bar stools and these softback counter stools. The winners came from Costco, we had them shipped directly to our home for free, and they arrived speedily and in perfect condition.
I simply placed a spring of greenery and holly berries in the mason jar utensil holder for the Christmas holiday season.
I have to share the story about our hood fan with you. The fan we originally ordered for our new home arrived but actually didn’t fit the space between the cupboards. It turned out that the builder had given us the incorrect measurements; I am glad it was him and not me that measured.
We found out only a few days before we were to move in so off I went to the appliance store to source out another option that would be suitable. And oh my gosh, isn’t this hood fan sleek and beautiful, you hardly even notice its there. For the home decorator in everyone, get this>>the front plate color can be changed to match your decor.
This baby was not the lowest price wise but it has a safety feature that can’t be beat. The hood fan turns itself on if we (I really mean me) forget to turn it on when cooking, or anytime it detects gas fumes. This is the first time we have purchased a gas range and I was a little concerned about the smell of the fumes, but now I never have to worry about it at all.
You can see the colors and learn more about this hood fan here >> Inspira Venmar.
Another tidbit, in case you are building a house, if the builder thinks you want an over the range microwave and you opt for a sleek hood fan instead, be sure to ask them to move the plugin for the microwave to another location.
The plugin should be wired to a dedicated breaker your microwave so that it won’t blow the breaker and cut power to the hood fan in or other appliances. Alas, we were unaware of this, and our microwave outlet is still located inside the cabinet over the hood fan. Not really useful three since we wouldn’t even be able to reach it.
Not sure if these three are going to get any baking done for me…..but they are super cute gifts from beautiful friends.
Who doesn’t love Charlie Brown and his friends Snoopy and Woodstock?
My husband is a Snoopy addict, he has to watch A Charlie Brown’s Christmas repeatedly every December and he often has the soundtrack going when the movie isn’t.
Help yourself to a cookie or two.
The Great Room
The wall on the right of the great room consists solely of double sliding glass patio doors leaving me very little wall space to decorate but I wouldn’t trade the view and light for anything. I snuck in one wooden snowflake on the wall and have yet to hang the blue & white strings of lights around the patio doors, the 3m light hooks have been installed so I am halfway there.
Here is a close up of our fireplace, glitzy rocks along the bottom light up with the flame, it has a direct vent so it can be in the centre of our home, and a solid wood beam for the mantle. This fireplace was definitely one of the features that sold this home to us.
I feel head over heels for these galvanized metal stars and angel and farmhouse ladder at a local pharmacy, turns out they have the best decor selection in the whole city.
A few of my favourite Christmas decor things…1) the knit pillow and knit reindeer, 2) the Jesus is the reason for the Season wooden sign and 3) the farmhouse white wooden snowflake.
The master bedroom is located directly off the right side of the living room. I spruced up our room with a few accents of holiday decor for those times when our friends and family might get a peek. It’s such a happy place, I can’t help but smile when I enter our bedroom and see the pops of pink Christmas decor.
I made the leap and switched to all white bedding this winter, and I am loving it. This hotel inspired set gives the room a retreat feeling, one of relaxation and peace. The Chic Home Kesha 11 pcs Comforter Set is similar to our bedding, you can find it at Walmart online.
The Alexis Ruffle Comforter Set came a close second when I was shopping for new bedding, it looks so soft and feminine. Target has an amazing selection of quality white bedding sets at affordable prices, and remember the shipping is free with any order over $35.00.
If you are ready to update your current comforter set with a hotel quality duvet set, the Hotel Luxury 3 pcs. queen size duvet cover set-ultra silky soft is on for a steal of a deal right now on Amazon. The set is regularly $129.99 on for $24.99! Crazy, right? There are 15 colors to choose from, so whatever your decor style is, you can update your room with very little $$$.
This pink Princess mug always reminds me that I am a princess to Jesus and He is my prince. And that, my friends, is what Christmas is really about.
I have a white handkerchief that belonged to my mom on my nightstand, sadly she passed away in September this year. Having this close to me is a reminder to spend time with the people I love. We never know what each day might bring or whether we even have another day with them here on earth.
Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today, please go tell your husband, mother, father, children, family, and friends that you love them. And hey, you know what, Jesus and I luv you too!
There we are on our wedding day, almost 30 years ago. The love of my life, my soulmate J and
oh look, he (we) had a lot of hair back then!
Oh Christmas tree. Oh Christmas tree…
Which tree do you prefer, the 2016 wee pop of pink in the family room?
Or the 2017 shades of blue upstairs? Be sure to let me know in the comments below.
From our home to yours, we wish you a very Merry and Blessed Christmas,
(BTW-the middle date on the sign below is my bday), and a Happy New Year!
