What do Christmas and the holiday season mean to you?

For us, it means welcoming friends and family into our homes, spending time together while enjoying good food, playing cards and games, and laughing our bellies off.  We want all that we do is give thanks and celebrate the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ.  This Christmas I give thanks to God for my family and friends, a home to live and love in, and a year ahead to use what He sees fit to provide for us so we may use it to bless Him.

Welcome, come on in!

At night, the gift boxes, garland and wreath are lit up with twinkly lights to welcome our guests. I can’t seem to find our outdoor holiday rug since our move; if you any suggestions for a durable yet beautiful outdoor rug please do drop me a note in the comments so I can check it out.

This is our entryway, I have not quite finished decorating it yet. There is a ledge way, way up on the left beside the front door that is going to be adorned with a garland and sparkly lights. Add the garland for the bannister….and that should be it.

The snowmen and other animal creatures have been with us for many years. When our daughters were young, I loved to fill our home with magical creatures that are lifelike and definitely kid-sized and we still have fun with them today. Unabashedly, I admit, when I took out the snowman standing in the corner on the right, I gave him a hug and told him it was good to see him. Okay, I admit I am a wee bit attached to these guys. They bring back memories of holidays with little girls running about so filled with excitement and awe.

We have a guest! There have been a few, dark nights when I actually jump at the sight of someone in our home but then realize it is one of the snowmen.

One of the projects on my DIY to-do list for next year is to paint this brown basket shelving unit and framed mirror.  I thought about replacing the basket shelf, but these drawers come in so handy that I have decided to DIY it instead.  I found all but one of the decorations above at the local pharmacy.  Like who knew a pharmacy would have the best selection of Christmas decor in the whole city?  The light up wooden star has star shape cutouts on all sides which casts reflections in all directions, simply heavenly. The picture really doesn’t do it justice but I am working on my photography skills to have better images in my future posts.  The only thing gift on my Christmas gift list is a real camera!

My favourite part of the holidays are the meals shared with the people I love. There is just something about sitting down to a meal or even a simple dessert and games night that brings out the best in people. Maybe it’s because their bellies are getting filled, or perhaps it’s the cup of cheer, but the gatherings around the table are always memorable.

Silver with greens/blues tones make up almost all of the Christmas decor in our home this year, it was an easy transition from our fall decor and the slight pop of turquoise combats the winter blues.  When winter hits full force the first week of November, you know it is going to be a long winter!  If you are experiencing the winter doldrums, check out this lovely guest post by my friend Jennifer, she illustrates the steps to set you up for a cozy winter and Beat the Winter Blues.

Confetti is an inexpensive but fun way to add a look of celebration to your table.  Use confetti in the shape of green trees or silver stars for your holiday tablescapes and then simply add confetti with the words ‘Merry Christmas’ on Dec. 25th!

This is our eating area on any given day without the hoopla of the dinner setting on the table :).  I have twinkly lights in the bowl and throughout the wreath because you just can’t have too many twinkles. In December the bowl on the table will be swapped out for the wooden the box filled with greenery and candles but as this post needed to be ready to go live, this is what the table looks like today. We don’t have a buffet/hutch yet but I am on looking for one to fit the space.

For now, this space works perfectly for our laptop desk, and it is super handy to have a computer right by the kitchen.  I can google a recipe or send a quick email while I cooking dinner, or when I need to check in on my blog.  I splurged this year and ordered a new Mac laptop, what a dream, it seamlessly communicates with my iPhone, iPad, and iMac to ensure that wherever I am working, all my contacts, images, and documents are easily accessible.

You can put together this simple place setting to use when for a get together with shared a appetizer and dessert buffet in your home.  Use wooden frames and ornaments from the dollar store or Amazon. DIY the frame and snowflake ornament with chalk paint, and simply hot glue gun a twig of greenery to the side of the frame, voila, it’s now a pretty wooden charger.  Using numbered napkins helps your guests find their plate when they are ready to graze again!!  The square dessert plates are fun serving dishes that say have the words ‘yum’ or ‘mmm,’ stamped on them.  We have a dip dish that says ‘no double dipping!’ It always gets a laugh.

The kitchen is the hub of everyday life, it’s where all that good food is made, and where your friends congregate!  Keep the kitchen decor to a minimum so your counters are clear and ready for all that food and drink prep work over the holidays. Changing the light bulbs from soft white to red, blue and green in the pendant lights above your island gives the space a Christmas glow.

Friends or the kids sit comfortably at the island or in the great room and chat with us while we prepare the food. The hubs and I pretty much sit here at the island every night for dinner too.  When we moved into our new home, I had a vote on Facebook for our friends and family to choose between wooden bar stools and the cream, softback counter height stools. The winners were purchased from Costco,  shipped directly to our home for free,  arrived speedily and in perfect condition.  I highly recommend them if you require new stools for your kitchen island.

Simply add a spring of greenery and holly berries in the mason jar utensil holder to Christmas it up!

I have to share the story about our hood fan with you. The fan we originally ordered for our new home arrived but actually didn’t fit the space between the cupboards.  It turned out that the builder had given us the incorrect measurements; I am glad it was him and not me that measured.  We found out only a few days before we were to move in so off I went to the appliance store to source out another option that would be suitable.   And oh my gosh, isn’t this hood fan sleek and beautiful, you hardly even notice its there. For the home decorator in everyone, get this >> the front plate colour can be changed to match your decor.

This baby was not the lowest price wise but it has a safety feature that can’t be beaten. The hood fan turns itself on if we (I really mean me) forget to turn it on when cooking, anytime it detects gas fumes.  This is the first time we have purchased a gas range and I was a little concerned about the smell of the fumes, but now I never have to worry about it at all.  You can see the colours and learn more about this hood fan here >> Inspira Venmar.

Another tidbit, in case you are building a house, if the builder thinks you want an over the range microwave and you opt for a sleek hood fan instead, be sure to ask them to move the plugin for the microwave to another location. The plugin should be wired to a dedicated breaker for your microwave so that it won’t blow the breaker and cut power to the hood fan or other appliances. Alas, we were unaware of this, and our microwave outlet is still located inside the cabinet over the hood fan. Not really useful there since we wouldn’t can’t even reach it!

Who doesn’t love Charlie Brown and his friends Snoopy and Woodstock?  My husband is a Snoopy addict, he has to watch A Charlie Brown’s Christmas repeatedly every December and he often has the soundtrack going when the movie isn’t.

The Great Room

The wall on the right of the great room consists of double sliding glass patio doors and sidelights leaving very little wall space to decorate but I wouldn’t trade the view and light for anything.  I managed to hang one wooden snowflake on the wall and have yet to hang the blue & white strings of lights around the patio doors, the 3m light hooks have been installed so I am halfway there.

Here is a close up of our fireplace, glitzy rocks along the bottom light up with the flame, it has a direct vent so it can be in the centre of our home, and a solid, stained wood beam for the mantle. This fireplace was definitely one of the features that sold this home to us. The galvanized metal stars, angel and farmhouse ladder are from the decor section at a local pharmacy!

A few of my favourite Christmas decor things…1) the knit pillow and  reindeer, 2) the Jesus is the reason for the Season wooden sign and 3) the farmhouse white wooden snowflake.

The master bedroom is located directly off the right side of the living room. I spruced up our room with a few accents of holiday decor in case you took a peek.  A few pops of pink to decorate the bedroom because pink is one of my happy colours.

Using cream or white bedding makes it easy to add any colour scheme to a bedroom.  This hotel inspired set gives the room a retreat feeling, one of relaxation and peace.  The Chic Home Kesha 11 pcs Comforter Set is similar to our bedding, you can find it at Walmart online.

The Alexis Ruffle Comforter Set came a close second when I was shopping for new bedding, it’s soft and feminine. Target has an amazing selection of quality white bedding sets at affordable prices, and remember the shipping is free with any order over $35.00.

If you are ready to update your current comforter set with a hotel quality duvet set, the Hotel Luxury 3 pcs. queen size duvet cover set-ultra silky soft is on for a steal of a deal right now on Amazon. The set is regularly  $129.99 on for $24.99! Crazy, right? There are 15 colours to choose from, so whatever your decor style is, you can update your room with very little $$$.

I have a white handkerchief that belonged to my mom on my nightstand, sadly she passed away in September 2017, she is dearly missed.  Keeping her personal item close by is a reminder for me to spend time with the people I love. You never know what each day might bring or whether you will get another day with your loved ones, here on earth.  Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today, please go tell your husband, mother, father, children, family, and friends that you love them.  And hey, you know what, Jesus and I luv you too!

Wow! Y0u really have a lovely cozy home, I wouldn’t want to leave if I came to visit. It is indeed important to reflect on why we celebrate Christmas because Jesus is the reason for the season (writing a blog post on this actually). I love the 2016 Christmas tree more by the way ;-). Great post! Thank you for sharing.

  2. Lisa, if anything me can transform house to home, it is you! All is absolutely gorgeous, just the perfect amount of hotel ambiance (class) and hearth of home. You are ready for a full on b&b 💗Love how the snowman is now part of your family ☺️

  3. Beautifully decorated home! This year I added a lighted string of Christmas greenery above my fireplace, and it looks so beautiful. I would have done it sooner if I had known how it would transform the room.

  4. zoi

you did an amazing job decorating your house, it looks luminous and neat. I agree with you about the minimal decoration’s stuff in the kitchen, usually, this season kitchen is very busy. About the Christmas tree, I liked the 2017 tree better, it looks kind of Victorian 🙂

  5. Your house is beautifully decorated, I love how it’s not over done, yet you can feel the holiday vibe through your elegant decor. I love spending time with family as well, but winter break in my house also means vacation time as my family consists of a couple teachers and that’s one of the only times they can take vacations. I’ve also mever thought about changing the lightbulb colours during parties or events, that’s a very nice touch!

  6. Lisa, your home is beautiful! I love all of the little touches in each room! Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous home and cozy decor!

  7. This is a very different style from my own but I love it, especially how every room exudes “Christmas.” Every year on December 26th I hit the shops to add to my collection. Your wooden star with the cutouts is perfect and I’m looking for something similar to add to my own mantel.

  8. I absolutely loved the two wreaths and the way the garland wrapped around the front door! Plus the greenery used as a centerpiece for the dining table – so cute and perfect for the season! 🙂 xo

  9. You have such a beautiful home! We’ve taken a very simplified approach to decorating the last few years, I’m kind of excited to start thinking about a theme for next year.

  10. Oh I love your decor and man I’m feeling all the Jesus love here. Umm the deal on the bedding is wow! It’s hard for me to choose what tree I like best…I think I’ll go with the hint of pink. So much goodness. I really adore how it’s not overstyled and still very styled!

  11. You did an amazing job! I just love your great room but I must say your dining room is gorgeous! I love that centerpiece. You have definitely inspired me! Merry Christmas Lisa!

  12. Beautiful home Lisa! Love your little Christmas friends that come out every year. Those are the kinds of memories I love about this time of year. My vote is for the tree with pops of pink – I love anything pink! Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!

    • I have to agree, I am liking the pink addition to the tree and I am adding it here and there in my decor (like in our master bedroom). Adding a few pops of another color here and there makes it look fresh and different, but doesn’t cost a fortune.

  13. I love it Lisa! We also have so many sentimental things that make me smile every year when they come out of hiding and I love that you welcomed your snowman with a hug! And that wreath you found at a pharmacy is perfection!! Looks beautiful!

  14. Lisa, Wow. The best compliment I can give a person is that your house feels like a HOME. On your sofa, I love your knit pillow and reindeer. And your snowman in the entryway. And your fireplace is gorgeous! Love the decor you found there too! Never thought of changing the inside bulbs for Christmas – so smart. And I want all the printables too! I like both trees, but I one had pops of navy(?) – And I am digging that right now. I am thinking of changing up our bedroom duvet cover, and adding some Christmas decor to our room, after seeing yours. Beautiful Lisa! Thanks for inviting us into your home, and giving us a glimpse of your heart in the process 🙂 Merry Christmas!

    • Alicia, you are so kind. I really appreciate your kind words and encouragement. Yes, the teal tree has navy, teal, and silver!

  15. Lisa I just love your tablescape. It’s so beautiful! Your Christmas decorations make your home so inviting. Too bad we live so far apart or I’d be right over! 😊🤗

  16. I love that you hug your snowmen when you get them out each year, Lisa! That is one of the many reasons I love Christmas so much, it holds so many precious memories. Your home is absolutely beautiful! Thank your for sharing it with us. And my vote is the pink tree… pink is my favorite color. 😉

    • I have been a bit crazy for pink this past year and can see me having a white and soft pink tree in the future! There are so many sentimental ornaments and decorations that come out at Christmas. Today I was digging around in a bin and found my childhood Christmas stocking. I am going to hang it in the family room when I decorate it tomorrow.

  17. Lisa, your home is beautiful you have done a wonderful job decorating for the holidays. Your home is so bright and cheery!! I have that same Love You More blanket!! Have a very Merry Christmas!!

    • Thank you Susanne, I can’t wait to check out more homes on the tour tomorrow. I know how I am spending my Sunday afternoon :). The blanket, oh yes, that was quite the difficult purchase! I will have to tell you all about it one of these days.

  18. I love all of this, but especially the bedroom. I am going to surprise my husband with a freshen up room for winter. SOmething simple. He is perplexed with lots of pillows but does watch TV in bed so a big Euro would be helpful. Lovely inspiration in the holiday tour! Thank you!

  19. Your home looks so cool, clean and crisp, I love the icy blue and silver color story you utilized. It makes me think of a frosty winter’s morning, snowmen and peppermint patties. Thank you so much for being a part if the holiday home tour with us all! Merry Christmas!!!
