In today’s world of Photo Shop, our idea of beauty has changed so much from what it once was. Now we use Snapchat filters and photo editors to create our perception of beauty, because lets face it, achieving this idea naturally is just down right unrealistic.
It can be really hard sometimes to find your confidence and appreciate your own body. I mean, we can’t all be Kardashians. Having ways to appreciate yourself for who you are can make all the difference.
Here are a few of my tips for embracing your body:
- Track your progress
You might not be where you ultimately want to be right now, that’s okay!!! Tracking your progress is everything! Knowing that you are heading in the right direction towards crushing your goals can make you feel so much better about yourself. I track my weight loss on a dry erase board. Every week I record my weight so I can see my progress. I might only lose a pound in a week, but when I look and see that I’ve lost 80 pounds overall, I feel AMAZING. Just keep things in perspective and realize that one step forward is better than two steps back.
- Point out the things you love
For some reason, it is so much easier to notice the things you don’t like about yourself, and your body, as opposed to the things that you do like. This is why you need to remind yourself of the things you love about yourself! When I’m feeling particularly down about myself, I go to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. I think in my head all the things that I like about myself. These are the things that make me feel good. It could be that my hair looks great that day, or that my skin is clear and even. Finding those qualities that make you feel good can really boost your confidence. Focus on the positives, not the negatives!
- Find ways to change what you don’t like
Understanding that it is okay to change things that you don’t like about yourself is so important. Just remember that you should only change things that you don’t like, not what someone else might not like! Know that how you feel about yourself is more important than how anyone else feels about you. Keep that in mind when assessing things that you’d like to change! For me, I personally didn’t like that I was overweight. Because I didn’t like my body or self that way, I decided to change it by eating better and getting more exercise. Now when I lose weight, I know that ultimately I did it for me and not for anyone else. It is so satisfying to improve your self-esteem based on your own feelings and not anyone elses!
- Buy yourself something new
Personally, this is my favourite confidence booster!! What better way to celebrate improving your confidence and self-esteem than by treating yourself to something new? Rewarding yourself if such an important part of self-care! When I hit a new weight loss goal, I go out and buy myself a new outfit. I try to choose something that shows off my hard work and accentuates my new figure! It’s amazing how a new pair of jeans can add to your newly found confidence!
- Build others up
Happiness starts with yourself, but being kind to others can ultimately boost your self-esteem as well! I am a true believer in the idea that spreading positivity will bring it right back to you! If you can help make someone else feel good about themselves, that person might just return the favour. It is so easy to perpetuate hatred these days. Be the one to spread self-love and confidence instead.
